Chapter 8

Protocol

8.2. Protocol Coordinator

To coordinate protocol arrangements at Annual Meetings, it is expected that the host country appoints an experienced “Protocol Coordinator” or someone of similar capacity to liaise with the ADB Annual Meeting Coordinator as early as possible on all protocol matters relating to the meeting. The Protocol Coordinator provides advance information and guidance regarding the attendance of the Guest of Honor and other host country VIPs at the opening session and other high-level events. If the Guest of Honor is the head of state or head of government, it is essential that ADB meet their protocol personnel counterpart as early as possible, and preferably by February of the year of the Annual Meeting. At this meeting, the ADB and host country protocol staff will walk through protocol arrangements together before the opening session to clarify the official proceedings. The Protocol Coordinator also ensures that copies of any speeches by the Guest of Honor and other host country VIPs attending official meeting events are provided to the ADB Annual Meeting Coordinator at least 3 days before the event.
